Who earned the title of Power Pair for The Walking Dead episode 810? There were most definitely some pivotal interactions this week.

The Walking Dead has always been large on both teamwork and confrontation. Sometimes a pair of characters work together and sometimes they butt heads. Let’s take a look at how characters interacted in episode 810 ‘The Lost and the Plunderers’.

Contenders: Michonne and Rick

The episode opens as Michonne and Rick work together to pack up their things and leave Alexandria. Personally, I first sense a bit of distance between the two as they suffer through the very recent loss of Carl. But the two band together and try to extinguish the fire on the gazebo. Michonne reminds Rick that Carl used to sit on the roof there. They make their best effort dispatching walkers as they try to put out the fire. But, finally, they have to move on and the fire still blazes.

I was happy to see Rick and Michonne talking in the van. At least they can up open to each other about the grave loss. However, they do not necessarily agree on what happens next. Should they go ahead and read the letters? How should they live out Carl’s dying wishes? They ponder back and forth.

Contenders: Negan and Simon

Negan and Simon share an exchange at the Sanctuary about how to proceed with the war. The two Saviors clearly have some different ideas about how to deal with traitorous Garbage People. Passive aggression escalates to open rage after Gary delivers reanimated Dean from the Hilltop.

Negan has the last angry word and demands that Simon visit the Scavengers and send the message Negan’s way.

Of course, Simon does not follow Negan’s instructions. Jadis and Simon have an uncomfortable exchange of their own. Simon demands remorse. When Jadis’ sentiments do not meet his expectations, Simon dispatches all the Scavengers leaving only Jadis alive to mourn the destruction.

Simon returns to The Sanctuary and casually dismisses Negan’s inquiry about the message having been delivered. Something tells me this is not the last of the ideological conflict between Simon and Negan.

Contenders: Enid and Aaron

Enid and Aaron are taken prisoner by Oceanside after Enid kills Natania to save Aaron. Cyndie ultimately decides to spare them but insists that they leave.

Aaron and Enid are set to leave when Aaron tells Enid he has to stay and convince Oceanside to join them. Enid disagrees and claims they will not join them. Aaron persists and insists that he stay and Enid return to Hilltop.

Enid ultimately agrees after the two promise to see each other again. They share a hug. Will Aaron become a father figure to Enid much like it seemed Glenn was becoming?

Power Pair

There were definitely several interesting pairings in the most recent episode of The Walking Dead. But I believe the conversation at the end of the episode takes the cake as the most charged and impactful.

That conversation takes place between Rick and Negan. It is not face to face but rather over walkie-talkie. Rick has read Carl’s letter to Negan. He decides to share the news of Carl’s death and the contents of the letter with the leader of the Saviors.

Negan is obviously taken aback by the news of Carl’s death. He most definitely feels something. But this does not keep Negan from “sticking it” to Rick, claiming Carl’s death was Rick’s fault because he was not there to protect him. Negan implies that if Rick were not off initiating the war, he could have been there to save Carl.

Rick is equally antagonistic. He shares Carl’s wishes for peace and how he wants both Rick and Negan to stop fighting. But Rick swiftly exclaims that it is too late and declares once again that he is going to kill Negan.

The pair remains at odds.
