Old habits die hard on episode 812 of The Walking Dead titled ‘The Key’. Fans were treated to an adrenaline rushing episode where Rick chases Negan refusing to let him escape as hungry walkers surround them.

If fans loved Rick and Negan’s brief scuffle during The Walking Dead season 8 mid-season finale then rejoice for the fight is not over yet. Not by a long shot.

During the episode ‘How It’s Gotta Be’, Negan had the upper hand surprising Rick as he returned to Alexandria to find his family. This time Rick turned the tables and sent Negan running for his life with seemingly no end in sight.

Rick’s drive to kill Negan hit the gas pedal as he caught the convoy of Savior vehicles on their way to The Hilltop. The moment Negan was spotted Rick took matters into his own hands.

This is where things escalated quickly.

Driving Negan off the path and away from the safety of his Saviors, the car chase ended with Negan’s car totaled. Rick emerged armed and ready.

Negan barely escaped into the nearest abandoned building dodging bullets. Once Rick was out of ammo Negan challenged him. Rick’s unexpected move of throwing an ax sent Negan reeling, losing Lucille and falling several stories into the basement.

In the darkness of the basement, Rick searches for Negan while Negan searches desperately for Lucille (cue the impending walkers wandering about). In the midst of this, the two have another heart to heart (sort of speak) where its Rick’s turn to give Negan some harsh truths.

Specifically, Rick accused Negan of being a hypocrite (he ‘saves’ people) in regards to the way he treats his own people and The Scavengers who were all wiped out.

Check out the video of Rick and Negan’s vicious fight ‘Rick vs Negan’ in this week’s Talked About Scene from The Walking Dead as shared on the official YouTube channel of AMC:

With Simon’s secret out its obvious Negan just added more items to his to-do list. Negan’s silence upon this news is clearly making him rethink his confidence in his own people.

A reevaluation may be in order for his people he assumed were coming are just outside. Simon steps forward to take matters into his own hands.

More from Undead Walking

Not only had he convinced The Saviors to not follow Negan in case more people are coming but that he and Dwight couldn’t find him when they came across the trashed car. Previously in the episode, Simon made his intentions clear to Dwight that he believed more action needs to be taken leaving Dwight in a tough predicament.

Remaining calm, Dwight listened on until he was forced to make a decision upon the discovery of Negan’s abandoned car. Deciding to burn the car and side with Simon (for the moment), the group of Saviors leave without searching for their leader with the new approach of destroying Rick and the people who followed him.

When Rick realizes Negan cares more about the bat than himself he lights it on fire and begins to use it to break down a blockaded door with ‘Eaters’ on the other side. Negan attacks Rick, sending them both into a walker battleground.

Both men fight the undead and each other until Negan escapes through a broken window with Rick following and unfortunately losing sight of him.

What became of Negan? The ending of the episode shows that Negan was captured by Jadis, driving with fury and holding a gun to his head.

Next: Was TWD episode 812 any good?

In true Negan fashion, he grins unfazed before she hits him with the bottom of the gun.

It’s obvious Negan wasn’t expecting his plan to fall apart so quickly. He may soon be eating the very words he spoke to Rick when they first met at the lineup in season 6.

A big day it was indeed.
