There was a lot to process in The Walking Dead’s latest episode. Here are some of my thoughts on The Walking Dead 812 The Key.

The Walking Dead is heading into the final battles of All Out War with great momentum. While it’s still debatable if Carl’s death was necessary in order to get the story to this point there’s no debate about the quality of ‘The Key.’ It was easily the best episode so far this season.

There was a lot going on in this episode. The Hilltop prepared for a battle with The Saviors, Simon led The Saviors towards Hilltop and tried to recruit Dwight to rebel against Negan, a new group was introduced, and the women of The Hilltop made some big decisions.

Rick and Negan’s fight was the core of the episode though, and it was exhilarating to watch Rick finally go after Negan without any thought about morality or protecting the innocent. Rick’s only thought was killing Negan once and more all and Rick’s always at his best when he’s got nothing left to lose. It feels like we’ve been waiting for Rick to reach this point with Negan for a long time.

The episode teased a big battle coming in the next episode which should increase the momentum of the story as it heads towards the ultimate conclusion of All Out War. If next week’s episode is building off of this one it should be an epic showdown between the survivors and The Saviors. But ‘The Key’ will stand as one of the best episodes of the season, if not the best episode of the season. Here are 34 thoughts I had while watching The Walking Dead episode 812 ‘The Key’:

Those walker gut weapons are medieval torture level evil.

Negan looks at everyone the way my dad used to look at me when he knew I wasn’t where I said I was and he was waiting for me to incriminate myself.

Even Dwight can’t believe he hasn’t been caught yet.

Arat! Hey girl. We missed you.

“You are beautiful baby.” And just like that millions of fangirls burst into flames.

CHANDLER BADASS BOSS RIGGS! There, I fixed those credits again for you AMC.

Rick’s eyes haunt me now.

That’s the most Daryl has spoken in 3 seasons, possibly more than he’s said the entire show.

Rick’s pain is so raw. We miss him too Rick.

“Let’s get weird” – way ahead of you Simon.

Michonne is always her own woman. #BOSS

Rick is finally going on the offensive! Aww yeah.

Hey isn’t that the alley from season 1 where Glenn and Rick were? Miss you forever Glenn.

Rick. Is. Not. Playing.

How did Negan not get any walker blood on him? Doesn’t he have any little cuts or something on him that could get infected with it? Jeez I always have random cuts how can Negan be in the apocalypse and not have a scratch?

Damn Rick did you miss firearms training day at the police academy? You couldn’t hit the side of Hershel’s barn.

Ragey Rick is the best Rick.

Who is Georgie? Is she from Commonwealth?

Even in the apocalypse no one wants to hear spoken word.

The girls of Hilltop getting it done like always. #Badasses

Maggie serving disapproving mom looks already.

  • Yeah, you’re on your 9th life Negan. Meow Motherf*cker.
  • Lots of speechifying going on for two guys who are supposed to be hunting each other.

    For a know-it-all, there’s a lot you don’t actually know Negan.

    Dwight serving sarcasm.

    Simon’s staging a coup. A wordy one.

Hush Enid, the grown women are talking.

Michonne living Carl’s legacy. Ow the feels…

LIGHT HER UP RICK! Justice! Justice for Glenn! Justice for Abe!

Rick definitely has no more f*cks to give.

Yep, Georgie is Commonwealth. I’m calling it now. See you in Season 9 ladies.

Education matters kids. Librarians are gonna save us all in the apocalypse. #TheMoreYouKnow

    Correlation isn’t causation Enid.

Jadis with the steal! Typical Heapsters…swooping in to steal other people’s things.
