There were new “friends” and old enemies in the latest episode of The Walking Dead. Which pair of characters made the biggest impact earning the title of Power Pair?

Rick arrives at Hilltop but does not stay for long. After a brief reunion with Judith and a little chat with Daryl, Rick is back on the road. There are quite a few others on the road as well. The Saviors have a convoy headed to the Hilltop. And some mysterious strangers try to befriend Maggie and company right in the middle of the road.

Let’s take a look at some of the more compelling pairings this week in episode 812 ‘The Key’

Contenders: Maggie plus one

Maggie is finally beginning to look a wee bit pregnant with a very loose-fitting shirt that is untucked. By Georgie (wink!) there just might be a baby in there after all.

The Walking Dead timeline has always been fairly mysterious. A whole season could be a matter of months or only weeks. It’s hard to keep up with the timeline. Nevertheless, folks are ready for Maggie’s pregnancy to be at least a little more obvious.

Based on wardrobe alone, we have a little more evidence of Maggie’s pregnancy but not enough to make mom and baby stand out as a power pair.

Contenders: Lucille and _________

Lucille takes a car ride with Negan, but she lights up (literally) when Rick comes on the scene.

Negan clearly has a powerful connection to his weapon of choice. Rick knows this. Using Lucille against Negan is about as insulting as Rick can be.

The elaborate fight scene between Negan and Rick with Lucille changing hands back and forth was definitely engaging. However, the fact that the two men ended up going separate ways yet again keeps these batters from being this week’s power pair.

Contenders: Georgie and Maggie

The Hilltop ladies investigate a mysterious note outside their gates. Maggie leads the charge with Enid, Rosita and Michonne in tow.

Maggie goes head to head with newcomer Georgie offering knowledge in exchange for records and food. How can I describe Georgie? Personally, she reminds me of a female Benjamin Linus from Lost based on her composure, calm demeanor, and vague promises.

Maggie is not in the mood for deals and ends up taking Georgie and her two traveling companions back to Hilltop.

It turns out that Georgie has compiled some sort of manifesto called The Key, which she claims can guide Maggie in rebuilding a sustainable world. As a measure of good will, or perhaps trickery, Georgie leaves the book with Maggie taking only the records not the food. Georgie can see that Hilltop is struggling to feed its population.

The pairing of Georgie and Maggie was definitely intriguing but lacking in enough information to qualify for power pair.

Power Pair

Dwight and Simon have an interesting dance going throughout the episode. Simon insists on Dwight riding shotgun with him in the convoy.

As the convoy heads out, Simon begins campaigning to keep Dwight firmly in his court and against Negan, sometimes subtly, sometimes not so much.

When Rick side swipes Negan’s car, Dwight and Simon go looking for him under the premise of rescuing him. They find his car turned on its side but find no sign of the Negan himself. They do not look very hard and head back to the rest of the convoy.

Simon proposes the idea of moving on and finding other communities to “save” since Rick’s group simply does not scare easily enough. Dwight seems to think this just might work. With Negan possibly being out of the picture and the Saviors moving on, Dwight might actually be able to achieve his goal of helping the Alexandrians.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Simon’s proposal also includes wiping out Rick’s group much like he did with the Scavengers. Now Dwight is in quite the pickle. Where will things go from here?

While these two gents are not actually on the same page, I nominate them as Power Pair this week based on their plotting and scheming.

Power Pair for episode 812: Dwight and Simon

It’s impossible to say how things proceed from here, especially with that not so little twist of Jadis capturing Negan. There is a pair right there with those two coming face to face again!

The next episode of The Walking Dead airs on Sunday, March 25th at 9/8 pm Central on AMC.
