Fear The Walking Dead has added several new characters for season 4. Garret Dillahunt recently shared some new information about his character John.
Fear The Walking Dead is ramping up for season 4 and there are some big changes coming. One of those big changes is the addition of several new main cast members. Recently Garret Dillahunt, who plays new character John, talked to Entertainment Weekly about his character and what it’s like to work with a cast that has already been together for three seasons.
From what Dillahunt said in the interview it seems that John is a really good shot who is almost a caricature of a Texas cowboy, but not quite. Dillahunt said about John:
"My character of John was a trick shooter for fun before the thing happened, so he’s employing those skills now. We don’t want him to be like a cartoon, but that’s his weapon of choice, so I think the comparisons are inevitable. But it’s not like I have cowboy boots on, you know what I mean?"
So while John may seem like the quintessential good guy with a gun, almost like Rick Grimes, but it seems like there is definitely going to be some depth to John’s personality. Dillahunt also said that:
"There’s dark humor. I think it’s how you survive, and it might be more his modus operandi. We didn’t want him to be just another brooding badass on the show, waiting to stab some zombies, and so there’s optimism and guilelessness and hope. I think a lot of it’s he’s lying to himself, but it’s how he’s coping."
Joining A Show 3 Seasons In
While Garret said that it’s tricky to join a show that is already established he should have no trouble bringing John into the world of Fear The Walking Dead. The show is experiencing as much of a reboot as a show can that has been on the air continuously.
After last season of Fear, which was set on the Brokejaw Ranch with the survivalist Otto family and their followers, the show is moving states and jumping forward in time. Fear The Walking Dead will jump ahead several years so that it’s on the same timeline as The Walking Dead.

This allows for the crossover of Morgan Jones to the Fear world. Presumably, Morgan, who is experiencing an existential crisis after the death of Benjamin at The Kingdom, will leave the survivors on The Walking Dead after the end of All Out War.
He ends up in Texas and is the catalyst for the new Fear The Walking Dead cast and story as he discovers them and learns about their stories of what has happened to them since fans last saw them in the Season 3 finale.
The Biggest Season Yet
Fear The Walking Dead started off on rough footing. The story was incoherent and haphazard. The first two seasons drew mixed reviews from fans. But by season 3 the show started to improve and from the previews and teasers that have been seen for season 4, it looks like Fear The Walking Dead has finally found the right path. The look of the show is gritty and intense and the new characters, like John, will finally bring cohesiveness to the story that was missing before.
