Which two characters earned the title of Power Pair in the The Walking Dead episode 813?

The action was almost non-stop in the latest episode of The Walking Dead. The drama continued even after the battle weary survivors went to sleep. There were thoughtful conversations and aggressive confrontations. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting duos in ‘Do Not Send Us Astray’.

Contenders: Tobin and Carol

Briefly before Tobin’s demise, he has the opportunity to clear the air with Carol. Tobin is stabbed in the battle at Hilltop. Carol seems genuinely concerned about him. She visits him in the infirmary and the two talk about what did or did not transpire between the two of them.

Carol and Tobin were linked romantically in season 6 before Carol surreptitiously fled Alexandria upon confronting the deaths for which she was responsible. But was their relationship genuine? Carol suggests it was her pretending to live a different life but hinted that things may have become more real when she decided to leave Alexandria.

The two also share opposing thoughts about the current fight with the Saviors. Carol believes the fight will never truly end. Tobin says “The end of the fight is what we’re fighting for.”

While Carol and Tobin did not end up seeing eye to eye ideologically, it was good to see some closure between the two. Of course, they also literally see eye to eye when Carol has to put down walker Tobin. This is not as pleasant but a necessary part of our survivors’ world.

Contenders: Morgan and “Gavin”

Morgan has multiple encounters with a vision of bloodied Gavin. We can pretty safely assume that Morgan is hallucinating as part of his inner turmoil.

“Gavin” spouts phrases like “You were supposed to” and “You know what it is”. Morgan is plagued with these visions. Morgan sees “Gavin” so vividly that he even engages “him” with a swipe of his staff.

I, like many other fans, suspect that this is all part of Morgan’s inner battle that will ultimately lead to his exit from The Walking Dead and into the world of Fear The Walking Dead. We have three more episodes to find out for sure.

Contenders: Jesus and Michonne

Jesus and Michonne made a skillful fighting duo when walkers rose from within the ranks of survivors at Hilltop.

It was only a brief scene, but the precision with which the pair takes out a walker was truly impressive. Jesus pins the walker to the wall with his foot while Michonne makes the fatal stab with her katana.

It is always interesting to see characters working together to fight off walkers using their respective special skills.

Power Pair

Maggie is approached by multiple survivors in the episode. She is told more than once how she is a good leader. The soft hearted Savior Alden thanks her for remembering that the Saviors to be buried were indeed people.

Maggie and Rick confide in one another about their failed efforts to take out Negan. Later Maggie refers to the cost of trying to bring Negan to Hilltop to face his final moments. She looks over the graves of survivors killed in battle.

Throughout conversations with several different people in the episode, Maggie confronts her conscience. She is forced to evaluate her true motives and if they are worthy of the losses incurred. Maggie has the opportunity to consider the quality of her leadership.

Therefore, this week’s Power Pair is awarded to Maggie and her conscience. I believe that Maggie’s inner dialogue and self-evaluation qualify as the most impactful pairing this week.

The Walking Dead will be back for three more episodes before season 8 comes to a close. How might Maggie’s decisions and leadership change based on the conversations and experiences from episode 813?

Tune in Sunday, April 1st for the next installment of The Walking Dead on AMC.
