The Sanctuary may be turned upside down upon Negan’s return on the latest episode of The Walking Dead. The Saviors are in for a surprise which could mean choosing between their leader and Simon.

The Walking Dead has thrown us a curveball by not revealing the passenger Negan picked up on his way back home from a very exhausting (to say the least) day. Arriving under the cover of dark Negan informs the Savior at the gate to not let anyone know he has returned.

“Daddy’s home and it’s gonna be a surprise,” Negan grins. Undoubtedly the ones who will be most surprised are Simon and Dwight.

Negan’s ‘surprise’ may be more than even he expected. He isn’t aware of what happened since his heart to heart with Jadis.

He doesn’t know that Simon single-handedly convinced the Saviors to ditch searching for him and attack The Hilltop with the intent to kill everyone. He isn’t aware of the casualties lost at The Hilltop and Simon’s complete disregard for the captured Saviors.

If Simon’s massacre of The Scavengers put him in hot water than these recent actions put him in lava. What does this mean for The Sanctuary?

With Negan back you would think everything goes back to the way things were. Everyone kneels at his presence.

Everyone follows the rules to avoid the iron and Lucille. But what if Simon obtained some new followers?

What if the Saviors rather follow him? Are we looking at a possible civil war?

Considering the season is almost over, probably not. Maybe in some alternate universe it would have been interesting to see (similar to what could have happened if Negan didn’t kill Spencer at Alexandria) but most likely the Saviors will fall back into line.

Negan’s grip of fear on his people hasn’t loosened regardless of how much grease Simon applies. He can make great morale speeches and pose with guns confidently but he doesn’t have the power Negan obtained.

As Negan so blatantly once said, “You earn what you take”. Was that a hint that Negan didn’t begin The Sanctuary but take it from someone else in power?

Simon shouldn’t look to Dwight to side with him either. Dwight, who hates Negan to the point he would die if it meant taking Negan down with him, would have to play the game for his benefit.

If Negan has the numbers, Dwight will take his side and easily throw Simon under the bus as he did with Dr. Carson to protect Sherry. That is assuming Laura was not the mysterious traveler Negan picked up and that Negan is oblivious to Dwight’s betrayal.

What happens next will change the shape of The Sanctuary and Negan’s reign. Just how many Saviors does he have left at this point?

Will Eugene’s bullets be the final factor in deciding who wins All Out War?

With the season finale just one show away, fans can be assured that the ending is going to be intense.

When Negan is involved things will be anything but dull.
