The Walking Dead closed out season 8 with episode ‘Wrath’. Which pair of characters had the most impact among all the twists and turns of the finale?

The season 8 finale of The Walking Dead included a few surprises. Oceanside finally arrives on the scene. Morgan decides to leave the group while Jadis is given the opportunity to join the group. Then there is that one character who seems to be left with no choices. That’s right. Negan’s slit throat is bandaged and he is handcuffed to a bed. He’s told he will be spending all of his time in a locked cell soon.

Some leave All Out War angry and bitter while others welcome the opportunity to come together. Maggie has a hardcore vendetta against team Richonne. On the other hand, Laura is happy to see Rosita and Tara rolling up to the Sanctuary with supplies.

Finally, Negan’s former “wives” can now dress as they choose. This in itself spells sweet victory!

Let’s take a look at some of the pairings in episode 816 and figure out who should be crowned the Power Pair.

Contenders: Rick and Negan

Rick and Negan confront each other yet again. We think this brawl might be to the death, especially after Rick slits Negan’s throat. I mean, how do you survive that?

You survive that when your opponent calls in a doctor to save you. Siddiq saves Negan’s life, but for what? So he can rot in a cell while the rest of the “new world” flourishes? That seems to be what Michonne and Rick have planned for their captive.

Rick seems to think he has finally honored Carl’s wishes, but I don’t recall the letter mentioning a glass shard to Negan’s throat.

Contenders: Eugene and Gabriel

Eugene finally comes through, in part thanks to Father Gabriel. Eugene and Gabriel seemed to be at complete odds in episode 15. However, Gabriel’s perseverance, especially amidst adversity, somehow inspired Eugene to do the right thing. And by right, I mean making the bullets wrong.

Eugene and Gabriel are finally working on the same team again. Eugene sabotage’s the bullets such that they explode within the weapons and upon the users. And Gabriel’s fist explodes on Negan’s face when Gabriel slugs the tyrant.

We do not know how well or if Eugene will be welcomed back the fold, but it is great to see him doing what he thinks is right, not just what keeps him alive.

Contenders: Jadis, I mean, Anne and Morgan

So these two did not play a huge role in the season finale. But I did enjoy the dichotomy of their situation. Morgan wants to leave and Jadis, who now wants to be called Anne, has an invitation to join Rick’s group of survivors. One coming, one going, both having seen trash as a place of refuge.

Contenders: Maggie and Jesus

First of all, why is Maggie sounding so evil. Secondly, why is peace loving Jesus listening to her? Does  he agree with her or will he try to change her mind eventually?

This side of Maggie makes me very uncomfortable. There is not just fortitude in her voice. It sounds like hatred. I think Carl should have also written a letter Maggie because clearly she did not “get the memo” about this peace thing.

Maggie is making a long range plan and Jesus is listening to her. I bestow this week’s Power Pair title upon Maggie and Jesus because I think they have the potential to make a big change, good or bad if they stick together.
