Fear The Walking Dead said goodbye to an original character in episode 3 of season 4 but actor Frank Dillane explained why he asked to leave the show.

Fear The Walking Dead’s shocking death of original character Nick Clark upset some fans. But killing off Nick wasn’t just another callous decision by the producers or writers. They weren’t “pulling a Gimple” on fans in the way that Carl was killed off on The Walking Dead. Frank Dillane, who plays Nick, asked to be written out of the show.

Fear The Walking Dead has gone through a lot of huge changes this year with new showrunners, new writers, new characters, a time jump and a brand new storyline. And as the show rebooted itself Frank Dillane felt that it was time for him to move on. He talked to EW about his reasons for leaving. He said:

"“I had been doing it for three or four years, the show has undergone many changes in terms of different people in charge, all of this stuff, and I just felt like the beginning of this season kind of felt like the end of an era with this show. And television is hard work, and you have to shoot a lot. I also missed Europe very much. I’m not American, so after a while I get quite homesick and all of those things. I also felt like we had achieved what needed to be achieved in the first few seasons, so I thought it was time to keep moving.”"

Losing Nick Clark was a shock to fans, but it will be interesting to see how Nick’s death will affect Alicia and Luciana. Especially since there is a lot of speculation that Madison is also dead.

Fear The Walking Dead’s OG

In many ways Nick Clark was the original character on Fear The Walking Dead. He was the first character to see walkers. He was the first person to discover Gloria, who was Patient Zero. And fans watched the apocalypse begin through his eyes.

But Nick was always an outlier in the apocalypse world. He moved through the apocalypse the same way he moved through the old world: with a unique perspective and an innate talent for survival. His ability to take each moment as it came and live in that moment served him well when it came to survival. He was equally capable of embracing someone or killing them without hesitation.

Nick Clark was a fascinating character and fans are sad to see him go but wish Frank Dillane nothing but the best in his future work. Fear The Walking Dead won’t be the same without Nick but it’s going to be super exciting to see where the story goes now.
