Which duo earned the Power Pair title for Fear The Walking Dead episode 404?

Fear The Walking Dead episode 404 is titled ‘Buried’. Of course, they did have to bury Nick in the present. But “buried” secrets actually took the forefront in the flashbacks on this week’s installment of Fear The Walking Dead.

We see three pairs of characters go out on supply runs. Or should I say desperate scavenging? Granted, these guys are indeed looking for food, but the supply “run” almost turns to full on running away for several of them.

Running

Naomi and Alicia traverse an old water amusement park. They score some medical supplies just before Naomi attempts to make a run for it. However, Alicia catches up to her and eventually convinces her to stay with the group.

Strand and Cole also go looking for food, of which they are in dire need. Cole wants to get to know Strand better. He’s not impressed, though, when he learns that Victor is ultimately self-serving. Cole leaves Strand to return to the ball diamond. Strand has a change of heart and heads back there as well, turning in the food he had accumulated.

Nick and Luciana hit up an abandoned library. Nick still wants to find good books for Charlie. Luciana is more interested in a book of maps. She convinces Nick that they should journey to the location of whichever page they open to in the book.

Even still, they all end up back at the baseball stadium with The Vultures watching their prey from outside the gate.

Althea captures all these stories before these guys stop and dig up an arsenal of guns buried in the ground. More “buried”! Our original survivors pulled a map off of Ennis after Nick killed him. This map shows The Vultures’ next stop.

Left behind

John learns that Laura is actually Naomi when he spots her backpack in the load of supplies. Alicia tells him that Naomi is gone, as in dead.

While Althea agrees to drive our original survivors to The Vultures’ next meet point, Morgan and John are left behind as John faces the idea of Laura/Naomi being gone for good.

Morgan does not seem so anxious to head out on his own again when he sees John in turmoil.

Power Pair

I have decided to bestow the title of Power Pair on Morgan and John for a second time this season. All the pairings are interesting this week, but this pair seems the most transformed in the episode.

John is deeply wounded at the thought of Laura/Naomi being dead. John’s suffering, in turn, just might motivate Morgan to stick around a little longer after all.

But wait . . .

Let’s hold our horses, Mr. Gun Slinger. Jessica Liese of Fear The Walking Dead Post Show Recaps podcast raised an intriguing theory I had not considered.

Jessica suggested that John’s time with Laura/Naomi may not have actually been consensual. Could John have been “Laura’s” captor and not a love interest at all?

What if Laura/Naomi’s exit from the baseball stadium was not a fatal one, but rather another escape?

This theory sort of blew my mind. I have grown so fond of John Dorie and would especially be distraught if the one “friend” who draws Morgan out of his solitude turns out to be nefarious.

Hopefully, we will find out more next week in the ‘Laura’ episode of Fear The Walking Dead.
