Fear the Walking Dead’s Althea is an intriguing character who navigates conflict while documenting stories along the way. What might be on those tapes?

When the world starts falling apart, it’s not the best time to appoint an historian to document everything that’s happening for the purpose of posterity, but Fear the Walking Dead has Althea doing just that. The intrepid former reporter, brilliantly brought to life by Maggie Grace, has been collecting footage to form a record of what happened because that’s what she does best, but what does she know as a result of that filming? What’s on those tapes?

Althea has made it clear from the very beginning that she’s only interested in getting the story. She has the vehicle and resources, which have been a great bargaining tool to get Strand, Alicia and Luciana’s stories. They need her ammunition, and she wants their stories.

Seeing Althea at the end of Fear the Walking Dead episode 406, “Just In Case,” cemented her neutral stance. She stood back and filmed as the Vultures arrived, and she was even filming when Alicia shot John. Like a journalist embedded with a military unit, she’s there to observe and document and she’s sticking to her policy. Time will tell whether she will ever intervene.

But after all of this time, and after seeing all of the tapes locked up tight in the van, we have to wonder what Al has learned. She’s been through some battles, surely, but what else has she seen? There are a bunch of tapes in the van labeled “The Bog.” What is the Bog? If you look closely at the scene, Al has a look of relief on her face that the tapes are safe. It makes you wonder whether this is more than just a project on her part.

One possibility is that Al is making a map. She meets and interviews people along her path, so she’s learning where people came from and what they saw along the way. Morgan, for example, can tell her what Atlanta was like when he initially left, and what he saw coming from Alexandria. If she asks enough people, she will have access to information that most people could only hope to have, which puts Althea in an enviable position. Knowing where to find safe havens could make her a very valuable asset.

The problem is that at this point, we know the least about Al. We’ve learned about John and Naomi, but Al is still a relative stranger and her policy to not be involved in conflict makes her something of a liability if she’s not willing to help her friends. So what is Al’s real agenda?
