Naomi showed up at the worst possible moment on Fear the Walking Dead, which made it look like she was a Vulture, but does she know what happened to Nick?

When Naomi showed up at the end of Fear the Walking Dead “Just In Case” there really couldn’t have been a worse time for her to return. With Alicia, Luciana and Strand preparing to fight the Vultures, her arrival made it look like she was with the Vultures. Of course, she didn’t really have a chance to explain anything because Alicia tried to kill her. Then, in “The Wrong Side of Where You Are Now” Alicia reminded Naomi that her group took her in and she betrayed them, despite Naomi’s claims to the contrary. What Naomi likely doesn’t realize is that Nick is gone, and that’s why Alicia is so upset.

Losing Nick was a huge blow to the whole group, but with Madison’s fate still up in the air his loss was even more difficult for Alicia, who may or may not have just lost her last living relative. Naomi knew Nick, of course, from their days at the Stadium. Mel tried to convince Naomi to come with him when he was injured, but she wasn’t persuaded. Madison set Mel free in the Land Rover, which is the same car Naomi arrived in. The optics there really aren’t good.

At this point we know two things for certain: Naomi was with Madison and the group inside the Stadium when Ennis sent the Infected on the attack, and Alicia was ready to kill Naomi when she saw her in the present timeline. Clearly something happened in between those two moments but it’s not clear what it was that could make Alicia so angry.

Naomi is at a real disadvantage here. Since she doesn’t seem to be with the Vultures, she has no idea that Nick is dead. (This presumes, of course, that she is not a Vulture. Things change if she is a Vulture and we don’t know it yet.) Naomi arrived at a time when Alicia is bent on revenge, and whatever it is that Naomi did to upset her was enough to make Alicia want her dead. If she knew Nick was dead, she might have considered showing up in a different way.

But that’s part of the problem with Naomi’s presence. We have no idea where she came from. We don’t know whose side she is on. Will news of Nick’s death affect her? Where has she been, and why did she arrive at that exact moment? That’s what really didn’t make sense, and we can only hope the the mid-season finale will clarify things.
