Pete Dolgen

Appearing for only one episode Pete was introduced alongside his brother Mitch and familiar face Martinez in the season 4 episode “Dead Weight”.  Upon the return of The Governor, now going by the name Philip, he stumbles across Martinez’s small camp and immediately tries to play it straight while keeping his dark past a secret from the new family he came to love and care for.

Unlike his brother Mitch, Pete immediately stood out as an honest and noble leader in the making. While Mitch often agrees with Philip’s morbid point of view while scavenging with Martinez, Pete remained the voice of reason.

Even if it meant arguing with his brother. Though Pete had abandoned his post at Fort Benning to join Mitch, he was anything but a quitter.

His level-headed nature and refusal to do anything he thought to be against his morals was what made him a threat to Philip and led to his tragic death. When Philip decided to take the camp for himself, he chose to kill Pete in the privacy of the RV and dumped his body into the lake.

Philip kills Martinez, however, spares Mitch who decides to join him perhaps out of fear knowing this same man killed his brother. One episode was enough for Pete to stand out in the most positive ways.

If fate was kind he could have easily led the camp to a more secure location. If he had encountered Rick he could have joined forces if it would benefit his group for the better.

It’s doubtful he ever would have met Negan unless he traveled towards Virginia like Rick however if he had there is no doubt he would have provided the reinforcements Rick needed immediately.

The training and skills he obtained in the army would prove beneficial. If he had never met Rick perhaps he could have started a community that would later trade with others.
