Walkers will descend upon sunny San Diego as AMC’s juggernaut The Walking Dead returns to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

The Walking Dead will once again appear at San Diego Comic-Con, returning to the hallowed Hall H arena for a presentation featuring the cast and crew, and hopefully a trailer for season 9. The announcement came from Deadline, which confirmed the show’s return to the pop culture convention while reporting that Chris Hardwick will not play the role of moderator at the panel.

Hall H is the biggest space at the San Diego Convention Center. Eager fans are known to camp out, sometimes for days on end, to secure a spot inside to see their favorite shows. The Walking Dead usually appears on Friday during the five day convention, and the panel usually appears before or after HBO’s Game of Thrones. This year, however, HBO isn’t sending Game of Thrones and Westworld to the convention, which will no doubt change the flow of Hall H traffic.

AMC usually has a large contingent of actors and crew members in attendance at The Walking Dead panel, and some lucky fans will have a chance to meet the cast during the signings. The show’s 2017 appearance had a muted tone following the tragic death of stuntman John Bernecker earlier that year.

This year will also be challenging for the cast and crew with the news that Andrew Lincoln will leave the show after season 9, and Lauren Cohan is only signed on for 6 episodes in the first half of the new season. The landscape is certainly changing among the core cast now that Chandler Riggs’ Carl Grimes is dead and Lennie James’ Morgan has crossed over to Fear the Walking Dead. With so many changes coming in season 9, The Walking Dead SDCC panel will no doubt be a hot ticket.

There’s no word yet about a SDCC panel for Fear the Walking Dead, but it’s early enough that we still have time for an official announcement about a Fear panel from AMC.
