AMC has long maintained a big presence at San Diego Comic-Con and as fans receive their badges in the mail, there’s a familiar face there to greet them.

Fans lucky enough to obtain a badge for San Diego Comic-Con in July are starting to receive their badges in the mail, and upon opening their mail they’re being met with three very familiar faces: Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon and Michonee! Once again AMC is sponsoring the SDCC badges, and that means there will be lots of The Walking Dead floating around Downtown San Diego in July.

AMC has sponsored the badges at SDCC for several years now, and with each sponsorship comes a new design for the badges. 2017 also saw a bloodied Rick Grimes on the badges, and the lanyards featured The Walking Dead as well.

The Walking Dead maintains a large presence at SDCC, with an interactive booth inside the Convention Center as well as installations outside the Convention Center as part of the SDCC offsite experience. The cast and crew appear at panels in Hall H, which is usually when the new trailer debuts for the upcoming season.

Finding Rick Grimes et al on the SDCC badges is bittersweet for The Walking Dead fans who will say goodbye to Andrew Lincoln in season 9. This is yet another reason all eyes will be on San Diego Comic-Con in July, as it will be the first major opportunity to learn more about how Lincoln will exit the show. (Naturally the showrunners won’t spoil anything, but they’re usually pretty good about sharing what information they can)

Given that this is Lincoln’s final season (for now…), 2018 will likely be the last time we see Rick on the badges. That means anything could show up in 2019, which is both sad and exciting for the future.
