The Walking Dead and former cast member Chandler Riggs won big at the 2018 Saturn Awards on June 27, taking home two major accolades.

The Saturn Awards celebrate the best of science fiction, horror and fantasy in the entertainment industry and every year they honor the best and brightest television shows and movies at their annual awards show. AMC’s The Walking Dead was nominated for seven awards and Fear the Walking Dead was nominated for three awards. Both shows were well represented at the event, where The Walking Dead and former cast member Chandler Riggs each picked up an award.

The Walking Dead took home the award for Best Horror TV Series, while Riggs took home the award for Best Younger TV Actor. Danai Gurira won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Okoye in Black Panther, which dominated the movie category with multiple wins, while alum Sonequa Martin-Green won Best TV Actress for her work on Star Trek: Discovery

Season 9 showrunner Angela Kang accepted the award for The Walking Dead, with Tom Payne and Fear the Walking Dead’s Danay Garcia cheering her on.

Fittingly, Riggs’ former cast member Katelyn Nacon and Fear alum Lorenzo James Henrie presented the award to Riggs, who was also celebrating his birthday.

The Walking Dead alum Sonequa Martin-Green won for Best TV Actress for her work on Star Trek: Discovery:

AMC’s Better Call Saul was also a big winner at the awards show, with awards for Best Action/Thriller TV Series, Best Supporting Actor (Michael McKean) and Best Supporting Actress (Rhee Seehorn).

As awards shows go, the Saturn Awards are a lot of fun because they celebrate many of the shows and movies that tend to be overlooked by traditional award shows. As a result, the stars who show up to claim their awards are extremely appreciative for their outer space-themed trophies.
