The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan posts message to the people who visit his house to take pictures, offering them a thinly veiled warning.

The advent of social media has provided fans with unprecedented access to celebrities that never existed before. Unfortunately, the increase in access can blur the lines for some fans who go as far as to approach celebrities at their homes. The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan seems to be having trouble with unwelcome visitors at his home, and he has a message for them.

Morgan posted the following message on his social media on Tuesday: “Dear people that think it’s a solid plan to come to our house, take pictures, drive up to house, knock on door…it’s not a good plan. It’s rude and creepy. Respect our privacy please. And…you’re being recorded.”

Celebrities in Hollywood used to recount stories of obsessive fans (and paparazzi) rifling through their trash cans on trash day, hoping to find keepsakes in the garbage. This forced celebrities to find other ways to dump their trash, and it also sent many high-profile people behind the gates of gated communities where visitors had to check in, thus ending random people from walking around their property.

In Morgan’s case, he lives on a ranch in Upstate New York with his wife and young children. Morgan and his wife Hilarie Burton are well known members of their community who volunteer their time with local charities, and it would be a shame for them to have to withdraw from their visible lifestyle on account of overzealous fans who don’t understand boundaries. Not only is it a matter of privacy, but it’s a matter of respect and a matter of safety for Morgan’s children.

We can only hope that the people harassing Morgan will see his message and stop approaching his house. No matter what fans might think of the character he plays on television, Morgan is a human being who shouldn’t have to worry about people taking pictures at his front door.
