While fans of The Walking Dead wait for season 9 they are taking a look back at the episodes that shaped their favorite characters.

The Walking Dead marathons are giving fans the chance to revisit simpler times when Team Family was everything and basic survival was still a challenge. Last Sunday’s marathon featured Carol-centered episodes that showed the development of this beloved character. From meek as a mouse abused housewife to an unstoppable force of nature Carol has proved to be a true apocalypse survivor.

She has faced her demons over the years and now as a warrior that is afraid of nothing except the toll that survival has taken on her humanity she has to figure out how to live as part of a community again. But it was poignant to look back at her incredible journey and to see with a new perspective how her actions throughout the series have shaped her character.

Fans were happy to see some of their favorite Carol moments again, like when she saved Rick and the others from Terminus and reunited with Daryl. Even though Rick had kicked her out of the group which was a really bad decision she came back to save them all. Because that’s who she is.

It was a shame that some of her best episodes like “JSS” and “The Same Boat” didn’t make it into the marathon fans. But fans had a lot of new insights to share on social media and a lot of love for the apocalypse queen Carol Peletier:

Rick is right about Carol – she’s a force of nature. And she may well be the ultimate apocalypse survivor who can adapt to any situation and won’t hesitate to do whatever needs to be done. Next week The Walking Dead is going to give us a look back at the villainous Governor but I will not be watching “Too Far Gone” again because I’ll never get over Hershel’s death.
