Eugene

Eugene actually had a stellar season recently in regards to his clever thinking and pseudo poker face talent. That or dumb luck.

Whether fans like it or not, Eugene was the wild card in determining who would win the war. He kept fans on their toes since he first arrived at The Sanctuary with questionable motives but in the end, he was not Negan but Rick.

Rigging the guns, ultimately leaving Negan’s last stand weaponless Eugene ended the season with a nice nod and punch in the shoulder from Rosita. However its the open-ended nature of the season finale that puts Eugene on this list.

When the dust settles, has Eugene truly always been team Rick or does he have yet to determine what his next move will be? At a first glance, Eugene seems to be back where he belongs but will he be trusted?

This time around Eugene should make bullets that actually work because if the previous season taught anything it was that ammo will run out. Rick isn’t a fool and knows the next threat won’t be far behind.

Eugene should enlist the help of a few members of Alexandria to teach while creating new rounds of ammo. While he is tasked with security he will need to help rebuild the nearly destroyed gated community.

This will mean new walls, new security measures, and means to feed not only themselves but their new allies. The reason Eugene will have to truly be on his toes is that Negan will not be that far away.

At times Eugene exhibited an understanding of Negan’s reasons for his actions. Though Eugene may be too afraid to face the ex-leader of The Saviors currently he will not avoid him forever.

Eugene may become one of several key factors in bringing Negan and Rick to common ground. But one step at a time.

Before anyone can take Eugene’s words for the truth he, like Oceanside, will have a lot to prove. But he is on the right path and has already reconciled with Rosita.
