Negan

Arguably, like Eugene, Negan also had a stellar season trying to fight back against Rick while also dealing with the loss of Carl and trying to keep his own people in line. It did seem whatever bad luck was thrown his way, he handled it the only way he knew how.

He kept on going finding the problems to be more like minor setbacks with victory in his sights. Even after losing countless Saviors, including his right-hand man Simon, Negan’s confidence didn’t falter until he was betrayed by the one man he had bet all on his money on to achieve the one task he was assigned.

Now, designated to a bed, barely able to talk, with Lucille nowhere in sight Negan has a lot of thinking to do which may mean a lot of explaining. He had said countless times that he saves people.

While some agreed that Negan is the better and more suited leader than Rick others scoffed at such a proclamation. If Negan’s words are true and he saves people he has to prove it.

Not only does he have to prove that but he has to show this other side that only Jadis and Father Gabriel had caught glimpses of. The side of the man who had and lost love and suffered greatly from it.

The man who quite literally broke down at the realization Carl was gone and could never come back. Whether this means Negan is turning over a new leaf is stretching the suspension of disbelief is yet to be determined.

Negan needs to be more open about his past and open to other ideas and values. The fact that he believed his way of saving people was the end all be all has to stop.

Since Rick and Michonne said that he will be locked in a cell, he has no choice but to learn how to coexist with the very people he tried to destroy. Simple apologies will not be enough…especially for people like Maggie.

There may be no way he can prove himself trustworthy enough to be free from the cell. Negan have to be the means to an end, at least for the time being.

Season 9 Negan will have to reveal every layer, weaknesses and strengths alike and that still might not be enough to sway anyone in his direction.

Fans have expressed their strong distaste for Negan multiple times and see him as a threat, he will still have that redeemable quality The Governor seasons back could have had but ultimately didn’t.
