It appears the rumors are true. Robert Kirkman recently confirmed that a major cast member from The Walking Dead will be leaving the show in season 9.

For a while, there has been a ton of speculation that a major character from The Walking Dead television series was going to make their last stand during the program’s ninth season on AMC and now it appears those rumblings are confirmed.

During an interview with Kevin Smith for IMDB, franchise creator Robert Kirkman was asked about the possible departure of series lead Andrew Lincoln and it seems the show will indeed be moving forward without Rick Grimes.

Check out the video shared by IMDB on YouTube featuring the conversation between Robert Kirkman and Kevin Smith:

The good news is that The Walking Dead has a stellar cast containing amazing actors like Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danai Gurira, and numerous others who should be able to carry the show into season 10 and beyond.

The bad news is that fans hoping to have the show be a close adaptation of the comic book series will be out of luck since the popular AMC zombie survival drama series is now looking at having Judith as the only survivor from the Grimes family.

Fans should take some comfort in knowing that Robert Kirkman and the people at AMC have some great plans in place for Andrew Lincoln, and the actor will be getting a proper send-off that they are deeming to be amazing.

"“He cares about the fans. He cares about the show deeply. He wants to do something special on the way out. We have something amazing planned. I wouldn’t want to spoil anything, but anybody who has been a fan of his journey, who loves Rick Grimes, who loves the world of The Walking Dead, you’re going to want to see what we do.”"

Fans have enjoyed watching the story of Rick Grimes since the character made their debut in the first episode. Since then, it has been a roller coaster for viewers who watched him struggle to protect his family and survive the zombie apocalypse, transforming from a survivor to a strong leader.
