The Sanctuary will have a new leader for The Walking Dead season 9
By Adam Carlson
With Negan no longer in power at The Sanctuary, someone will need to take control in season 9 of The Walking Dead…but we know one person it won’t be.
All-Out War finally came to a conclusion with the season 8 finale of The Walking Dead, with Rick and his allies taking down Negan and The Saviors in dramatic fashion thanks to a doublecross from Eugene.
With Negan not likely to return to power in season 9, that means a new individual will have to assume that role. However, a surprising revelation has the popular AMC show once again remixing their version of the story.
Our own Jennifer Renson wrote a tweet to The Walking Dead mailbag and got a response to a question about who will consume leadership of the community. Here is her tweet:
The response from Johnny O’Dell was a surprising one, at least for readers of the comic book series. Here is what he had to say in the weekly mailbag article:
"“With Negan locked up for the foreseeable future at Alexandria the Sanctuary will need a new leader. In the comics it’s Dwight for a time, but the show will chart a different path. Expect at least one of Rick’s allies to run it in Season 9, but the leadership will be shaky at best. As we saw in the Season 9 trailer, there are still some Saviors who stand with Negan.”"
The fact that the show will take a different path from putting Dwight in charge of The Sanctuary is an interesting one. It opens the door for many other characters to have a little more of a featured role in season 9, which would be nice for a change.
It would be great to see someone like Daryl, Tara, or even Anne (Jadis) have the opportunity to try to prove themselves with that community, but odds are that whoever gets that role might not be in for such a good time.
With so many options as to who could take control of The Sanctuary in season 9 of The Walking Dead, who would you like to see be the new leader of the community? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
