Fear The Walking Dead is back for season 4B but did everyone survive the mid-season premiere?

Fear The Walking Dead has returned for the second half of a stellar season. Season 4B started out strong with a taut episode showing the fallout from Madison’s revealed death in the mid-season finale. After losing Madison it’s easy to see why Luciana, Strand, and Alicia were so horrified at Nick’s murder.

But now the group, which has been running on adrenaline since the events at the stadium that took Madison’s life, has hit a period of downtime where the magnitude of their losses is really hitting them. No one died in Fear The Walking Dead’s midseason premiere “People Like Us” but the dead were definitely on everyone’s minds.

Strand and Luci are struggling to find a purpose. Alicia is doing everything she can to avoid facing her feelings and to do what Madison would do and continue saving people. Charlie is staying with John and June because no one really feels comfortable killing a child, even though she killed Nick. But Charlie can’t be around Luciana, Strand, or Alicia either.

Morgan has decided to go back to Alexandria and he wants the friends he’s met in Texas to go with him back to Rick and the others. No one seems very eager to go, except Althea who agrees to drive him. Even if the others agreed to go with him how many would survive the trip?

With a massive storm brewing, it might be the case that Morgan isn’t able to leave for Alexandria like he wants to. And it also might end up that not everyone survives the storm. It will be interesting to see how the characters handle the deadly storm since neither Fear The Walking Dead or The Walking Dead has explored the impact of a hurricane or major natural disaster on the survivors.

We Need To Talk About Charlie

Charlie’s presence is a problem. Alicia, Strand, and Luciana haven’t completely lost their humanity and can’t bring themselves to kill Charlie. But since Charlie shot Nick in cold blood does she deserve to die? Or is she just a traumatized child trying her best to make sense of the world around here which is a world of shifting allegiances? By sneaking into the mansion and leaving the book for Luciana Charlie indicated some remorse for killing Nick. But is that enough to absolve her of responsibility?

Madison wouldn’t have given up on Charlie, and since Alicia and the others are now all that remains of Madison and her impact on the world it’s unlikely that Luciana, Strand, or Alicia will kill Charlie the way that Charlie killed Nick. But it’s possible that making Charlie live with the weight of her actions is a good punishment for what she did.

One thing that is certain is that the group, which always had a tenuous tie to each other, is shattered. That puts them all at risk for being the next character that falls on Fear The Walking Dead.
