Fear the Walking Dead is back for the second half of season 4 and we had a chance to talk with star Danay Garcia about what’s in store for Luciana.

It seems like every time we talk with Danay Garcia, things are looking bleak for her Fear the Walking Dead character Luciana. After losing Nick and Madison in the first half of season 4, can Luciana rebound from these horrific tragedies and rise up? We had a chance to talk with Garcia about what’s coming up in 4B and how Luciana is coping with all of the losses, including losing Nick and Madison, and how Luciana will move forward in the second half of the season.

One of the things we laughed at during our conversation is that every time we talk, which is usually right before a premiere or finale, we always talk about that particular moment being the worst time for Luciana. Heading into the season 4 mid-season premiere, though, this time it might be the absolute worst. “This is the worst of the worst for Luciana,” Garcia said. “She’s forced to figure out how to get out of this. Before, love was her guide and that’s gone.” Garcia noted that while it’s hard for her character, she enjoys the challenge of playing in such a bleak time.

Back in season 2, “Luciana was on top of the world. She found love and was doing great.” Garcia notes that it has been really rough for her character after losing Nick, but she “becomes stronger after this loss.” It won’t happen overnight, though, and she adds that “the entire season is about dealing with loss. The story is emotionally apocalyptic.”
