Interview: Danay Garcia talks Luciana in Fear TWD 4B
The Theme of Fear the Walking Dead Season 4B
After suffering so many losses, the second half of the season “will see people seeing things through. They all see the future differently, which causes them to move apart.” In this way “each character is on his or her own journey. They’re constantly seeing the worst side of themselves and now they must heal.”
The biggest challenge for the team coming up in 4B is Mother Nature herself. The previews for the season show a hurricane moving in, which will have lasting effects for the survivors. “Mother Nature is a reminder of something bigger, something that reminds them all of their place in the world. They’re not that big anymore,” she said, talking about how no one is safe in that kind of storm.
Garcia is thrilled that Fear has been renewed for season 5: “I’m really curious to see where the journey goes.” She said that the showrunners “want to tell the story as best they can” and the team they have in place are the “perfect machine.” The writers have a clean slate to work with since they don’t have to worry about comic book canon, so the writers can have “fresh thoughts and no expectations, with their imaginations as their guides.”
It’s always such a huge pleasure to talk with Danay Garcia about Fear the Walking Dead, and we can’t wait to see what happens to Luciana in the second half of season 4.
Fear the Walking Dead returns August 12 at 9pm on AMC.
