Talking Dead returns for the second half of Fear the Walking Dead season 4, but the taping schedule indicates that the show will not be filmed live on Sundays.

Talking Dead with host Chris Hardwick returns to AMC to break down all of the Fear the Walking Dead action on Sunday nights. This season there’s something different about the show: It won’t be filmed live for most of the Fear the Walking Dead 4B episodes.

Fans noticed that Talking Dead would be taped in advance this season when audience service 1iota sent out information for tickets and The Walking Dead Fan Rewards Club posted opportunities for fans to use points to get tickets. The only live taping will be for the season finale on September 30, while the mid-season premiere on August 12 will be taped earlier in the day on Sunday. The rest of the Talking Dead shows will be filmed on three weekdays, and they will feature double tapings each day.

There are a few reasons that this is noteworthy. First off, if the show isn’t live then there won’t be opportunities for live questions from social media. That means fans who have questions should send them in when the Talking Dead social media accounts ask for questions. It also means that the polls and interactive aspects of the show won’t be available either.

Since many of the tapings are done back to back on the same day, we have to wonder whether the same guests will appear in both episodes or if there will be new guests brought in for each episode. It will also be interesting to see how the show, once aired, handles the social media segments that fans always look forward to. (Audience members aren’t allowed to have their phones on set, so the audience won’t be taking part in the social media segment either) It makes sense that the audience will supply questions in-studio for the guests, but since the episodes aren’t taped live there won’t be a chance for fans at home to submit questions during/after Fear airs.

Obviously, the lack of live tapings is worth monitoring and it will be interesting to see if Talking Dead returns to live filming for The Walking Dead. There are any number of reasons that most of the shows will be taped and hopefully fans will learn more during the Talking Dead premiere on August 12.

On a personal note, I have tickets to the double-taping of Talking Dead on August 15. I’m excited to see how this all works, as the audience will screen Fear the Walking Dead episodes 410 and 411 and then tape two episodes of Talking Dead. It should be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to sharing the experience of being a Talking Dead audience member with everyone.
