The Infected are whisked away in the wind so they run to the basement, which is now flooded with several feet of water. As soon as they get downstairs the house collapses, blocking their escape. Alicia sees a door but it’s locked from the outside. The windows won’t break. Charlie watches Alicia with a look of resignation on her face. Alicia finds boxes they can stand on while they wait it out. Alicia sees the terror on Charlie’s face and grabs her hand. The water is at their necks.

Charlie says she doesn’t want to die. “I know,” Alicia says, her voice cracking. Charlie doesn’t want to be one of them. She saw her parents turn, and she didn’t think it was real. They came back. “I’m sorry,” Alicia says. Charlie can’t remember what they looked like before and she can’t. She doesn’t have any pictures of them. Alicia realizes what is going on with the girl, who asks if Charlie still has the gun. Charlie insists she can’t end up like her parents. Everyone is gone. Madison. Nick. They’re all gone and she can’t deal with it. She wants Alicia to kill her.

Alicia aims the gun at the girl’s head. She sees Nick. She sees her mom. She sees Strand and Luciana. Sobbing, Alicia says she can’t do it. She says she’s sorry, but she can’t kill Charlie. Together, they clasp hands and sob.

There’s a crash outside and Alicia goes back to the door. Something fell on the door. It’s open now. Outside, they see that the tree fell and the Infected that had been impaled was responsible for breaking the lock. Alicia uses the gun to shoot him. They realize that he “saved” them.

The next day the rain has stopped and Alicia is placing rocks at the family’s grave. They have buried the bodies. Charlie watches her with a smile. She asks if Alicia did it for herself or for Charlie, but Alicia did it for the people who can’t come back. Charlie found her weapon in the house and Alicia gives it to her. She asks Charlie to help find some things. They search for photos of the family in the wreckage of the house. Alicia puts them in a glass bottle and places them on the grave.
