The Long Dark is a game that takes place in a frozen post-apocalyptic world that makes it perfect for The Walking Dead fans, and it’s available for pre-order now!
From movies to television shows, comic books to video games, post-apocalyptic plots make for good entertainment. Skybound Games has partnered with Hinterland to bring fans a physical disc version of popular survival game The Long Dark. The Long Dark arrives on Xbox and PlayStation 4 on September 4, but it’s available for pre-order now. Fans of The Walking Dead will see a lot of parallels between the show and comic books and the game as characters fight to survive in a world that has completely fallen apart.
The Long Dark takes place following a great geomagnetic catastrophe that left the world submerged in a wintery wasteland. There are moments that shed some insight into what caused the apocalypse, known as the First Flare, but the reason why it happened don’t matter as much as finding ways to survive the terrors of the frozen landscape.
While the game doesn’t have any zombies, it does feature a harsh and unforgiving landscape where survivors must fight to stay alive or succumb to the elements. Like the characters in The Walking Dead, The Long Dark players must focus on survival, keeping track of food and supplies while fighting the harsh landscape and the wildlife that calls it home.
Players can choose between the Wintermute Story Mode, Survival Mode and Challenge Mode, all of which offer different experiences of gameplay. Fans of exploration-survival games will find a lot to enjoy in this game, which puts the player in the middle of the action with fascinating characters like Dr. Astrid Greenwood and Grey Mother.
Fans who purchase physical copies of The Long Dark will receive a downloadable copy of the game’s soundtrack as well as a Field Journal used by a character in the game. The journal contains plenty of space to make notes, along with a map of Great Bear Island.
