Alycia Debnam-Carey promises more Alicia/Charlie teamups
Season 4 of Fear the Walking Dead has featured many dynamic pairings, but none of the relationships have been as compelling as the one between Alicia and Charlie.
It’s hard to imagine Alicia and Charlie being able to set aside their differences after everything that happened between them in the first half of season 4, but after Fear the Walking Dead 411 they have formed a powerful bond. Alycia Debnam-Carey hints that we haven’t seen the last of Alicia and Charlie and says that we’ll see more of this unlikely pair in future episodes.
In a recent interview, Debnam-Carey confirmed that “We can definitely expect more Alicia and Charlie dynamics” in upcoming episodes. After the events of “Close Your Eyes” the next episode featured Morgan and his new friends, and episode 412 will feature Morgan, Althea and June along with Morgan’s new friends and a new group of new people.
Alicia came full circle in “Close Your Eyes” when she decided not to kill Charlie and instead embraced her mother’s mission to help people. The young girl was visibly repentant, calling herself “garbage” and asking Alicia to kill her rather than become one of the undead. In sharing her story, Alicia realized that Charlie is just a kid and she didn’t act out of malice when she brought the Vultures to the Stadium and when she killed Nick. She was acting out of fear.
Both Debnam-Carey and Charlie’s Alexa Nisenson delivered Emmy-caliber performances in “Close Your Eyes” and it will be interesting to see what happens when they eventually meet up with the rest of the group. Charlie had been living with June and John, who went looking for her in the storm, but there was little love lost for her with Strand and Luciana doesn’t want her around at all. (Of course, Luciana went after Charlie when she ran out into the storm, so maybe Luciana is feeling sympathetic toward Charlie at this point)
Though we won’t see Alicia and Charlie until at least episode 413, it’s definitely something to look forward to as this new relationship continues to develop.
Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
