Greg Nicotero is a creative mind and artist on AMC’s The Walking Dead and he will be lending his talents to the new Spawn movie as a creature designer.

Even before joining the team at AMC’s The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero was creating and assembling some of the best practical effects and makeup in some of the most highly regarded films ever created.

His work and the work of his team has been seen in installments of movie franchises including Day of the Dead, Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Scream. From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill, Hostel, and numerous others while showcasing his talents on television in Preacher, Breaking Bad, Deadwood, and much more.

KNB EFX is the effects company fronted by Nicotero and recently The Hollywood Reporter revealed at they will be teaming up with Todd McFarlane for the new Spawn movie to create a new design for the main character.

McFarlane spoke about hiring KNB EFX and Nicotero, praising his work over the years.

"“I’m a longtime fan of Greg’s work and the projects his company, KNB, have done throughout the years,” McFarlane said. “Working with him once again, to re-invent the Spawn ‘look’ so it will match the supernatural theme in the movie, is going to be a fun process.”"

Interestingly enough McFarlane’s new Spawn movie will mark his first time as a film director as he attempts to resurrect the franchise he created with the first issues of the comic book series in 1992 and first brought to the silver screen in 1997.

As if the amazing comic book material, as well as the inclusion of McFarlane and Nicotero to the project, wasn’t enough, Two megastars have signed on to the film’s cast: Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx and Screen Actors Guild award winner Jeremy Renner.

The dark nature of Spawn should make it massively appealing and Nicotero’s work in creating the look for the supernatural anti-hero should go a long way in drawing in a new audience to an already popular franchise.

At this time, Spawn is slated for a 2019 release date with no specific day in mind. However, with so many talented people like The Walking Dead‘s Greg Nicotero working on the film, it should be one to watch for!
