Fear TWD’s Colman Domingo joins an exclusive club with directorial debut
Colman Domingo goes behind the camera in Fear the Walking Dead episode 412, “Weak,” marking his membership into an exclusive club of actor-directors.
There is an exclusive club among actors, especially television actors, who find themselves stepping behind the camera to become directors of their own shows. Some shows, like The Office, feature numerous actors who take a turn as directors over the course of a series’ run. It’s almost like a rite of passage for actors who wish to expand their horizons. While this is a very common occurrence, it’s not common for The Walking Dead or the Fear the Walking Dead at all, which is why Colman Domingo’s directorial debut is such a momentous occasion.
To date, Domingo is the first actor to direct an episode of Fear the Walking Dead or The Walking Dead. Later this year, Michael Cudlitz will return to the fold to direct a season 9 episode of The Walking Dead, but he’s not currently starring in the series.
Based on previews of Fear the Walking Dead episode 412, it’s unclear whether Domingo’s Victor Strand will make an appearance in “Weak” but even so the fact that he directed an episode while starring on the show is a huge deal.
Domingo is no stranger to the director chair, having directed multiple theatrical productions including A Guide for the Homesick at the Huntington Theater (2017) and Barbecue at the Geffen Playhouse (2016). The multitalented Domingo is also an award-winning playwright. In short, he’s a true Renaissance Man.
Domingo will live tweet the episode as it airs on September 2, and then he’ll appear on the episode of Talking Dead immediately following the episode’s premiere. He will be joined on Talking Dead by Jenna Elfman and Lisa Edelstein.
We want to congratulate Colman Domingo on this momentous occasion, and we hope to see you direct more episodes in the future!
