The iconic decaying title graphic that The Walking Dead has had since season 1 is no longer decaying indicating a new era for the survivors who are left.

With so many huge changes coming on The Walking Dead it’s easy to overlook some of the small ones like a change in The Walking Dead logo graphic. But the new logo is significant because it confirms that a new era is beginning for the survivors and for the show.

Since season 1 The Walking Dead logo has been consistently decaying every year, mirroring the decay of the world after the apocalypse. Every year as society evaporated and nature reclaimed more of what used to be civilization the logo would look a little more decrepit and a little grungier to reflect the consistent decay that was going on in the show.

But now the logo graphic is whiter, more solid, and has green plants growing throughout it. The edges are more defined and not decaying as they were previously. And the more solid look and feel of the logo combined with the bright green leafy growth reflects the new era that the show is entering into: a time of growth and relative safety for the survivors.

Now that Negan and The Saviors are defeated the communities can start to develop real civilization and community by working together to grow crops, rebuild homes and communities, and begin to create a new world with a future that goes beyond basic survival. The new logo symbolizes the hope of a better world and the coming of a time of peace that the survivors can use to achieve that goal. But this is The Walking Dead, and that era of peace and growth probably isn’t going to last.

No Peace In The Communities

After a long struggle to beat Negan and The Saviors it’s great that the communities are finally going to chance to try to create peaceful communities that can work together to provide all the survivors with the things they need to survive and to thrive. But chances are that relations between the communities aren’t going to be all that peaceful.

Even though Negan is now a prisoner in Alexandria there are still lots of Saviors about that might have a little trouble accepting their loss of power as the dominant community in the area. And Maggie still has to do something about traitorous Gregory and the trouble he can make for her at The Hilltop. There are also indications that Maggie and Rick and Daryl will all clash over leadership of the communities and Rick’s decision to keep Negan alive and imprisoned instead of killing him.

dark. Next. TWD season 9 premiere to be super sized

The new logo graphic for The Walking Dead may indicate the renewal of the natural world surrounding the survivors but the development of new growth, life, and peace may not be something that community leaders can create just yet. Still, they’re going to try. And when The Walking Dead returns on October 7 it will be nice for fans to be able to see their favorite survivors living in peace. For now anyway.
