Searching for Sophia

Searching for Sophia easily tops the list as viewers discover later this is will not be the last time Daryl has stepped in to protect others, especially children.

Season two pushed Daryl from the background into the foreground when Carol’s daughter Sophia goes missing. As the only tracker in the group, Daryl immediately stepped up to the plate and started searching for her with the group.

After finding solace at Hershel’s farm Daryl ventured alone, nearly getting killed several times trying to find her but to no avail. Though he returned empty-handed, Daryl refused to give up.

He believed Sophia was alive and he could find her, even if Shane thought his positivity was nonsense. What ended Daryl’s search was the heartbreaking discovery that Sophia was bitten and turned into a walker emerging from Hershel’s barn.

Prior to Daryl’s determination to bring Sophia back alive audiences didn’t see much aside from Daryl’s redneck behavior. He hunted squirrels, lost his temper and didn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the group.

He was basically a carbon copy of his brother Merle. By putting Carol’s needs before his own, Daryl took the first step out of his hardened shell proving he was more than scowl and grumble.
