The Walking Dead family took to social media on Friday to with Andrew Lincoln a happy birthday as season 9 approaches quickly.

It’s still hard to believe that The Walking Dead season 9 will be Andrew Lincoln’s swan song as Rick Grimes. But even as Andrew’s last episodes of The Walking Dead get closer the fans, cast, and crew of The Walking Dead took time to wish Andrew Lincoln a Happy Birthday on Friday, September 14th.

It was nice to take a moment to celebrate rather than mourn, because fans are going to be doing a lot of mourning in The Walking Dead season 9. Losing Rick Grimes is going to be tough on everyone. Even if his story doesn’t end in death it will be excruciating to have the story of the survivors that he has protected for the last 8 seasons go on without him.

And it isn’t just Rick Grimes and the fans, cast, and crew are losing. Lauren Cohan will be bowing out as well although she did hint that she might return at some point in the future to take up the role of Maggie Greene Rhee again. When TWD returns on October 7th it will start the countdown to the end of the story of Rick Grimes and his family. But until then let’s celebrate the talent, kindness, humility, and humanity that makes Andrew Lincoln such a treasure.
