Fear the Walking Dead 416 review: Into the sunset
No Hope
“I Lose Myself” was the end of Morgan’s journey toward the realization that he really does need people around him, and to see that he’s willing to do anything to protect his people. Sure, he keeps trying to save people who really aren’t redeemable, but that’s part of his identity. He has to try.
The group reunited with Al but Morgan decided that he had a duty to find Filthy Woman and try to help her. John was the only one who didn’t question his decision, and when Morgan thinks he’s not strong enough it’s John who tells him that he is stronger than anyone he knows.
On the most basic of levels, Morgan understands Filthy Woman because he was in her shoes before and he knows that she’s “stuck.” If he can find a way to save her, he will. He goes out of his way on more than one occasion to try to help her but she kept proving time and again that she wasn’t interested in help or redemption. She was on her own mission and the only thing she cared about was terrorizing Morgan.
In the end, Morgan realized that Martha was beyond help. However, this was a major point in his journey because in hearing her story he came to realize that there are other people out there who need help and who would welcome it.
