The season finale played with the ideas of hope and family. After the group rallied to save Morgan on the roof in “I Lose People,” Morgan returned the favor and rode in on a shiny delivery truck to deliver the antidote to the Filthy Woman’s poison. As it happens, alcohol counteracts antifreeze poisoning, and Morgan happened to find a delivery truck full of Jim’s beer. It’s the second time that Jim’s beer saved the day; the first time came when Luciana was able to fulfill Polar Bear’s dying wish for a cold one. Even in death, Jim saved the group and redeemed himself.
Whereas the group ended the first half of the season sitting around a campfire in an uneasy detente, by the end of the season it’s clear that they are one group. One family. They will continue on a new mission to save people and they will do it together. Even in planning how to move forward, it takes every member of the group to contribute to Morgan’s plan and it’s a symbol of their newfound solidarity.
Seeing Charlie resting her head on Alicia’s lap proved that anyone can be forgiven. While the Filthy Woman was beyond redemption, Charlie received the forgiveness she so desperately sought and now she’s closer to Alicia than ever.
Fear the Walking Dead season 4 was quite the journey. It was an emotional roller coaster that saw some huge losses and major triumphs. Despite the loss and the turmoil of the season finale, “I Lose Myself” ended on a positive note. The group is ready to help and they’re riding into season 5 ready to take on the world.
