The Walking Dead: Angela Kang on why fans should watch season 9
As excitement builds for season 9 of The Walking Dead, there’s a lot to look forward to and based on what has been shown: In Angela Kang We Trust.
Change is in the air as the season 9 premiere of The Walking Dead looms, but this year there’s a new feel to the excitement and it has a lot to do with new showrunner Angela Kang.
Kang has been involved with the show for several years, but now fans are getting to know her as the face of the franchise and she’s getting a lot of attention for her enthusiasm and dedication for the show.
I had a chance to talk with Kang at The Walking Dead press roundtables in Beverly Hills on September 27, hours before the show’s red carpet premiere. Not only is Kang incredibly approachable and fun to talk with, but she very quickly reveals her passion not only for the show, but for getting season 9 right. She’s a huge fan, too, and that means she wants to do right by the characters.
When asked what she’d say to fans worried about The Walking Dead’s future amid Lauren Cohan and Andrew Lincoln’s departure, she was very quick to note that the show will be as strong as ever.
"I want to assure people that the actors we have on the show are so incredible, and the work they’re doing this season is incredible. We threw some really difficult, emotional stuff at these actors and they just went above and beyond. They’re so committed. If people knew how seriously our cast takes it, and how hard they work, they’d really be impressed. I would assure people too that for Andy and Lauren, they really love this season and they love the work their peers are doing, so I want to say that those people [that fans] might be worried about leaving are so excited about what everyone else in the cast is doing that I hope the fans will respond to the same stuff [Lincoln and Cohan] think is so great."
There’s an important message here about giving the show a chance to prove itself. This is a new season with a new showrunner and a new beginning. Having seen the first three episodes with my own eyes I can say that the previews don’t do the episodes justice and there is so much more happening than you see in teasers and previews. The spoiler sites don’t have all of the answers either. The best way to judge season 9 is to watch and see what happens.
Tune into the season premiere of The Walking Dead on October 7 at 9pm on AMC.
