The issue opens with the riots continuing in the streets of The Commonwealth. The soldiers hold their shields as citizens pummel them with weapons and continue to set fires as the jaw of Pamela Milton hits the ground.
Rick asks what they can do to help. Mercer says they can follow his lead and the group runs into the fray.
Jerome is on the ground getting kicked and hit with weapons while being called a murderer. Elodie says they need to help him but Michonne tells her to keep running and she will go do what she can to assist.
Michonne pulls a woman off the pile, yelling that they are killing him. The citizen replies that he deserves it for beating a man to death. A man attacks Michonne, saying she is protecting the “monster”. Two citizens restrain Elodie as the man punches her mother in the face and beats her on the ground.
Jerome springs off the ground when he sees Michonne getting beat and uses his body as a shield to cover hers. The beatdown continues until Jerome’s blood is spilled on Michonne’s face and he is motionless.
The judge says he will consider her remarks, as the picture zooms out to show Michonne’s arm in a sling. The prosecutor asks to speak again, but he is denied and cour is adjourned.
Back at Michonne’s house, Rick asks her if she believes everything she said in court. She replies that she does…for the most part. She adds that she would do anything to keep her situation with Elodie and a feeling that they are living like things were before the outbreak.
Outside The Commonwealth, Eugene is excited by seeing a dirty train on a littered track. Stephanie is not impressed, but Eugene says the engine car is in good shape and he can get it running again. When asked why, Eugene tells Stephanie that it would solve the distance problem between the two communities. and even though it could take years, it’s something they need to do.
In Pamela’s office, Lance is explaining that Michonne is doing a great job and is winning people over with her speeches. However, praise for Michonne was short-lived, as Pamela asks how things got to this when Lance was left in charge. Lance apologizes and just as Pamela was about to make a statement to him she sees something disturbing out the window.
Running into the street, Pamela confronts Rick and his people. They are helping to clean up after the riot and she says they should have something better to do. Rick replies that he doesn’t and the least he can do is to lend a hand. That inspires Pamela to join them, raising an eyebrow and earning a smile from Mercer.
Sebastian sees his mom cleaning up and is furious. He says they have people who do that kind of thing. She says they need their help, so she’s helping and he should help too. Sebastian obviously disagrees and walks away, saying he didn’t cause this.
Magna, Dwight, and others watch as Sebastion walks away, joking that there sure are some colorful characters in The Commonwealth. Tara jokes about it, but Dwight looks up at the people dining while they work and feels a bit sick about it…but he feels better when Tara adds that they will “clean up” after they clean up.
Princess stayed the night with Mercer and shared a night of amazing sex. She gets to talking, saying it might be the best sex of her life but that could also be because it has been a while. Then, she asks what their relationship is: something real or just something casual.
Mercer says he likes listening to her talk, and she replies that it’s more than a casual thing…and that’s exactly what she would prefer. She adds that she is so happy she isn’t alone in Pittsburgh anymore as the two look deep into each other’s eyes.
On the streets of The Commonwealth, Rick is greeted by two citizens who recognize him as the leader of a visiting civilization. They say they saw him cleaning up the community and wanted to thank him for it. He says that where they’re from, everyone does their part…prompting the couple to ask if they had space for anyone in their settlement.
Rick says Alexandria doesn’t have a lot of the comforts The Commonwealth has, but the couple explain that it’s not all about the comforts and that the way everything looks shouldn’t fool him.
Arriving back at his room, Rick finds Dwight waiting for him in the dark. Alarmed, Rick asks what his intentions are. Dwight says the people of The Commonwealth are living “underfoot” and have “a boot on their necks” despite how nice it seems, adding that they aren’t as corrupt as The Saviors, but he sees potential in the place and wants to stay to lead people and “save” them.
After being told no by Rick, Dwight starts to lose his cool, swearing at Rick and getting extremely mad as the issue comes to a close.
