With every ending there is a new beginning as hope springs eternal in season 9 of The Walking Dead. It’s a whole new world out there as the communities continue to develop 18 months after the devastation caused by All Out War.

Though Rick Grimes and Maggie Rhee are leaving the show at some point this season, The Walking Dead’s ninth season is a throwback to the early seasons. It’s a new show with a new story that will carry the show into a new era.

“Rick and his group make a risky run into Washington, D.C. to search for artifacts they will need to build the civilization he and Carl envisioned.”

In the season premiere, Rick leads the group on a mission to find supplies at the Smithsonian. The previews have shows what this looks like, but seeing the group working together feels like seasons past.

Rick and the group have spent the past 18 months making the communities thrive. Crops are growing, houses have been built and there’s an optimism surrounding the world that didn’t exist before. The walkers are still a threat, though, and they’re still everywhere. But what if the walkers aren’t the most dangerous threat?
