The Walking Dead cast pays tribute to Scott Wilson on social media

Tributes poured in on social media from members of The Walking Dead cast and crew as they learned of Scott Wilson’s tragic passing on Saturday.

Scott Wilson, the talented actor who brought Hershel Greene to life on The Walking Dead, passed away on October 6 after a battle with cancer. Many fans of The Walking Dead were scanning social media checking for updates on New York Comic Con and the cast’s appearance at PaleyFest when the news came in that Wilson had passed.

The news certainly caught The Walking Dead cast and crew by surprise as only hours earlier new showrunner Angela Kang confirmed that Wilson would be one of many former cast members with cameos in season 9, likely timed to Andrew Lincoln’s departure. According to ComicBook’s Brandon Davis, Wilson’s scenes had already been filmed. Whether the scenes will still air remains to be seen in light of his passing.

Wilson joined the TWD Family back in 2011 for the show’s second season. As Hershel Greene, Wilson often served as the moral compass for the group, providing critical support to Rick Grimes after Rick lost Lori and subsequently lost his mind for a while. He will always be remembered for his white beard and soft voice that was the voice of reason in the middle of an apocalypse.

It’s important to remember in times like these that the #TWDFamily is all one big family and this news will hit some fans harder than others, so now is a great time to check in on TWD friends and see how they’re doing.
