The Walking Dead: Best fan reactions to the season 9 premiere
By Sonya Iryna
The Walking Dead season 9 kicked off with a big episode and fans had lots of feelings about Baby Hershel, Gregoryβs death, and the changes in the show.
Many fans of The Walking Dead had mixed feelings about the start of season 9 knowing that Andrew Lincoln is only going to be in a handful of episodes early in the season and then will leave the series to spend more time with his family. Lauren Cohan is also leaving the show about halfway through this season and The Walking Dead got a new showrunner, Angela Kang, who replaced Scott Gimple. Thatβs a lot of change for a show to go through and a lot of changes for fans to come to terms with.
But overall the reaction to The Walking Dead season 9 premiere βA New Beginningβ was positive thanks largely to Kangβs deft tweaks to the character development and storylines. Kang has been with the show as a writer and EP since season 2 and her familiarity with the characters and their personalities and histories showed in the way she brought the characters back together emotionally even though they are all at separate communities now. Fans have been missing that tight bond between the survivors in the last few seasons and were thrilled to get it back.
They were also pleased with a lot of the technical changes like the new title sequence, the updated look of the walkers, and the general look of the show which is sharper and more clear than before. But mostly fans were just glad to see the characters they love thriving and no longer struggling against Negan. And it was extremely satisfying to see Gregory get the death he deserved because that was long overdue. Here are the best fan reactions to The Walking Dead season 9 premiere:

And the tweet of the week for The Walking Dead season 9 premiere:
The Walking Dead season 9 premiere was full of emotion, but this scene between Maggie, Rick, and Baby Hershel was even more poignant due to the tragic death of Scott Wilson on Saturday night. RIP Scott Wilson, and all our love and sympathies to his wife, his family, and those who had the privilege of having him in their lives.
