ABC is counting on Michael Cudlitz to bring some of The Walking Dead Family over to his new comedy The Kids Are Alright with a clever marketing campaign.

We all know that The Walking Dead can be pretty dark sometimes, so to brighten up the primetime lineup fans can catch Michael Cudlitz in his new comedy The Kids Are Alright Tuesday at 8:30pm on ABC. ABC is hoping to lure some of Cudlitz’s fans over to the show as evidenced by a very clever and fun marketing campaign.

The Kids Are Alright is a family comedy set in the 1970s starring Cudlitz as Mike Cleary and Mary McCormack as his wife Peggy. Together, Mike and Peggy are raising 8 boys outside of Los Angeles. They’re a “traditional” Catholic family and the oldest Cleary son Lawrence is headed for the seminary…until he changes his mind.

Here’s the description for the pilot episode:

"Lawrence returns home from the seminary and tells his family that he’s dropping out for good, leaving Mike and Peggy upset; Timmy decides he wants to audition for a children’s theater production; Eddie tries to keep his girlfriend a secret."

ABC has put together a very clever play on Cudlitz’s past as Abraham Ford with an ad featuring Cudlitz with his red hair and mustache and the words “The Walking Dead” across the top. The words slowly morph into “The Walking Dad” to advertise the new show. Norman Reedus shared the post with his fans in a kind gesture of support for a fellow member of The Walking Dead Family.

Cudlitz, who frequently makes the rounds on the Walker Stalker convention circuit, will return to The Walking Dead in season 9. This time around he’ll be stepping behind the camera to direct an episode, becoming the first member of The Walking Dead cast to direct an episode of the show. (Colman Domingo directed an episode of Fear the Walking Dead in season 4, becoming the first actor in the franchise to direct an episode of either show)

The Kids Are Alright premieres Tuesday, October 16 at 8:30pm on ABC. Will you  be tuning in to see Michael Cudlitz in a much more lighthearted role? If you watch the episode tonight let us know what you think!
