The conflict between The Saviors and the survivors hit a boiling point tonight and not everyone made it out alive on The Walking Dead

Despite the fact that it’s been 18 months since Negan was captured not all of The Saviors have accepted their new position at the bottom of the hierarchy of the remaining communities. While the workers at The Sanctuary seem happy with the leadership of Rick and Daryl some of the remaining Saviors are unhappy with it.

They’re also unhappy that Maggie has demanded that they work with the other communities to rebuild the bridge if they want food from The Hilltop. And having all the communities together laboring to fix the bridge has led to some tensions that boil over in The Walking Dead’s second episode of season 9. Rick and Daryl both clash with Savior Justin who is definitely not willing to accept the leadership of any of the other communities.

The mistrust that was already present between The Saviors and the other communities grows when Saviors start disappearing. At first Rick and the others assume that the missing Saviors are just walking off the job and returning to The Sanctuary or leaving to go off on their own. But The Saviors are suspicious of the other groups. And because The Saviors aren’t allowed to have weapons they are on high alert.

When Justin doesn’t do his job pulling a siren to divert a herd the herd swarms the bridge workers. Aaron is gravely injured by a falling log and he ends up losing his arm as a result. Rick has finally had enough of Justin’s attitude, troublemaking, and putting the others in danger so he kicks Justin out, threatening him if he ever turns up again. At the very end of the episode Justin, out in the woods alone in the dark, is killed. The person who killed him isn’t visible in the dark. It looks like Justin’s troublemaking days are over.

Aaron’s Arm

The other casualty in The Walking Dead “The Bridge” is Aaron’s arm. When the walkers attack the group at the bridge Aaron ends up underneath a huge pile of logs when they slip. His arm is shredded and Enid ends up having to amputate it to save his life. She does save Aaron’s life, but losing his arm was a huge price to pay and it was directly the fault of The Saviors so that could lead to even greater problems between The Saviors and the other communities.

In The Walking Dead comic Rick loses his hand early on in the story. Since the show is known for remixing storylines and characters from the comic it’s possible that this means that Aaron will get a remixed version of Rick’s story arc since Andrew Lincoln is leaving the show. Hopefully this doesn’t mean the end is close for Aaron since Hershel managed to survive missing a leg for a relatively long time.

The conflict between The Saviors and the other survivors is far from resolved though it’s likely that Justin won’t be the only Savior to not make it out of the first half of The Walking Dead season 9 alive.
