For now, Maggie and Baby Hershel are settled at The Hilltop but that may not always be the case. Will Maggie go to join Georgie and the twins on The Walking Dead?

Maggie’s been having a rough time as the leader at The Hilltop on The Walking Dead. After Gregory convinced Earl to attack her and then tried to kill her himself Maggie had Gregory executed but let Earl live. Earl was a grieving father, who was drunk and easily manipulated by Gregory. Additionally, Earl is The Hilltop’s only blacksmith and his skills are definitely needed by the community.

But even though Maggie was elected leader of The Hilltop in a fair election her recent decisions may not be too popular with the residents. In The Walking Dead‘s second episode this season “The Bridge” it was offhandedly mentioned that Georgie had repeatedly made an offer to Maggie for Maggie to come to stay with her. Presumably, she wants to teach Maggie more of what she knows and possibly give her even more valuable information about community building.

Maggie has turned Georgie down but in the future, she may decide it’s time to leave The Hilltop and join Georgie. Lauren Cohan is set to exit the show before the midseason finale and it seems like the show may have just laid the groundwork for her to leave. Having Maggie take Baby Hershel and leave The Hilltop in order to take Georgie up on her offer would be a convenient way to write Maggie out while still leaving plenty of room in the story for her to return if Lauren Cohan wants to come back later on.

Leaving Glenn

It’s hard to imagine what would prompt Maggie to leave The Hilltop when Glenn’s grave is there though. She hasn’t left The Hilltop since that horrible morning when she and Sasha arrived at The Hilltop with Glenn and Abraham’s battered bodies.

When Gregory wanted to get Maggie into a vulnerable position so she could be attacked he told her that someone had vandalized Glenn’s grave and she immediately went to see for herself. So clearly the gravesite is important to her. What would happen that would make her leave Glenn’s resting place?

There are several possibilities. One possibility is that something happens which make Maggie decide to go on her own. Maybe she wants to learn more about building a community. Or maybe she doesn’t like the person she’s becoming and she wants to try living in a different community. It could also be the case that she can’t accept Rick’s decision to let Negan live so she decides to leave.

A more frightening possibility could be that something threatens Baby Hershel, like an escaped Negan. Or maybe an illness devastates The Hilltop so she takes Hershel away to protect him.

A Coup

Another possibility is that the people of The Hilltop turn on Maggie. She’s been making some hard decisions lately and she might not be seen in the best light by the people who elected her. Tammy Rose is angry at Maggie because she holds Maggie responsible for her son’s death, and she’s angry about her husband’s imprisonment. If Tammy Rose starts making trouble for Maggie and the other members of The Hilltop see her execution of Gregory as revenge and not as justice they could kick her out, or ask her to resign.

While it would be heartbreaking to see Maggie leave Glenn behind she will do whatever is right for Baby Hershel and carry Glenn with her along with Hershel and her other family members.
