The Walking Dead 902 panel discussion: The Bridge

Will Maggie’s Decisions Backfire On Her?
Maggie has twice now backtracked on her decisions, first taking an extremely hard approach and then softening after she takes counsel from someone else like Michonne or Jesus. Do you think that Maggie’s hardline stance on problems at The Hilltop will end badly for her?
Sonya says:
"I think that no matter what decisions Maggie makes when it comes to Negan and The Saviors the people at Hilltop will assume her decisions are based on revenge. And it definitely looked like her decision to kill Gregory was revenge since she didn’t also execute Earl. Her inconsistency and her tendency to go to extremes in her decisions I think will absolutely backfire on her in some way."
Sara says:
"I really do think that Maggie’s back and forth decisions will ultimately lead her to either leaving the Hilltop for good, or perhaps being voted out to leave by the other members. I do think she might leave on her own terms. I think she was totally justified in killing Gregory, but there definitely is a huge point as to why others would be afraid of the way she is going about crime and punishment at the Hilltop."
Sarabeth says:
"When Deanna groomed Maggie for a leadership role, she never had to cover things like how to issue punishments. Killing Gregory, though justified, was not something she was used to. Until then she hadn’t killed anyone. Glenn had been troubled by killing the Saviors at the outpost, and she knew this, but as her father’s daughter and as Glenn’s wife I can see how she might be second guessing herself. Since she’s the leader she can’t backtrack without looking weak, and I think that there might be people at the Hilltop who will prey upon this."
