The Walking Dead 903: Who died in Warning Signs?

Justin wasn’t the only Savior that didn’t survive more than the first few episodes of The Walking Dead season 9.

Well at least fans finally know why those Saviors were disappearing. In episode 3 of The Walking Dead season 9 “Warning Signs” Justin is found as a walker and it’s clear that he’s been murdered. The groups at the bridge try to figure out who is killing The Saviors as they assume the other six missing Saviors were also killed.

Because The Saviors are not popular with anyone there are a lot of suspects. The Saviors suspect Rick, Daryl, and Jadis/Anne and realistically it could have been any one of the groups. They all have reason to hate The Saviors. The Saviors aren’t really great at making friends and their continued defiance and refusal to work with the others aren’t exactly making them popular. Then there’s the little matter of all the people they slaughtered. Could it be that some people are holding grudges?

It turns out that slaughter is indeed the reason why The Saviors are now being hunted. But it’s not Jadis/Anne taking revenge on The Saviors for the slaughter of all the Heapsters last season like some of The Saviors think. It’s true that Jadis/Anne would have every reason to want to kill The Saviors after they wiped out her whole community. But since Simon is already dead and he was the one that orchestrated the slaughter it seems like she doesn’t really care about getting revenge.

The slaughter that The Saviors are now paying for goes further back. It was revealed that Cyndie and the Oceanside women have been picking off The Saviors who participated in the slaughter of the men and boys of their community, which used to be located in the area where the bridge is. And they had just one Savior left to kill, Negan’s lieutenant Arat.

Arat At Oceanside

Even though Rick and the others think that they can trust Arat since she and Laura are working hard to keep The Saviors in line and not cause problems with the other groups Cyndie isn’t having it. Maggie and Daryl find Cyndie and a few of the other Oceanside women holding Arat at gunpoint after kidnapping her. Daryl and Maggie are about to intervene when Cyndie tells them that Arat killed her 11 year old brother in cold blood.

While Arat begs Daryl and Maggie for help Cyndie makes her tell them what she said after Cyndie begged for her brother’s life. Arat told her “No exceptions.” And then shot her little brother. Maggie and Daryl take a beat to process that and listen to Cyndie’s rationale for slaughtering The Saviors who slaughtered the men and boys of Oceanside. And then they wordlessly walk away as Cyndie stabs Arat in the head. Guess it was Arat’s turn to look at the flowers.
