The Walking Dead 903: Oh baby! Richonne make a huge decision
This week’s episode of The Walking Dead featured a big moment for Rick and Michonne as they contemplate where they are and what their future holds.
For Richonne fans, this week’s episode of The Walking Dead featured a huge moment for Rick and Michonne as they look ahead at their future. Alexandria is strong and prosperous, so in Rick’s words it might be time to focus on other ways to build toward the future.
That’s right: Rick and Michonne are going to try to have a baby.
(And yes, they do “try” in the episode)
This is a huge moment for both the couple and the show. For the couple it reflects the strength of their relationship and their desire to be with each other as they build a new future. For the show, it’s a reflection of how far things have come from All Out War. The communities are thriving and there is peace and it’s only during those times of peace that even thinking about having children makes sense. And they have two doctors now, which is an added bonus.
As much as this joyous news fills us with, well, joy, there’s another side to it. Even though things are stable it’s still a zombie apocalypse and there are arguments to be made about bringing a child into this world at such a time. Judith was an accident, of course, and Hershel probably wasn’t planned either, but they’re both thriving. At this particular point in the story, if you’re going to try to get pregnant, now would be the best time. (It’s worth pointing out that there are babies at the Sanctuary, too, and so there are probably many more at the other communities)
Arguments about the apocalypse aside, there’s a bigger meaning to this news. As fans we know that Rick Grimes’ days are numbered on the show. Knowing that he and Michonne are trying for a baby now while also knowing that Rick is leaving makes the moment bittersweet. While it would be great to have Baby Richonne, it would be hard seeing Michonne lose Rick and having a baby.
