The Walking Dead, The Bridge: Things To Note
By Liam O'Leary
1) As Rick talks with who we later discover is Negan, he tells him “This is day 35.” Since what? Day 35 since the war ended? That seems a little…abrupt. If not, then what is the starting point Rick is counting off from? I imagine it had to be something significant, but, what?
2) During his opening speech to Negan, and while we hear Rick’s voice-over explaining how much things have changed amongst the communities, we watch Rick pass by a sign post pointing to all the communities, with another one pointing to Toledo (Presumably, Toledo, Ohio). Is this foreshadowing The Commonwealth, a large community from the comics which is located in Ohio? Is that Georgie’s community? Jesus does mention that she’s retained contact with Maggie, so…maybe?
3) Jerry’s apparent relationship with Nabila is new. Were they in a relationship before the war ended, and we just didn’t see it?
4) Rick ends his pre-title assessment of the situation with the phrase “We’re making A New Beginning.“, which was the title of the season premiere episode.
5) Before Ezekiel leaves the construction site to return to The Kingdom, he jokes with Carol about Henry going to college. What’s most amusing is the fact that, at the age Henry likely was when the outbreak hit (I’m guessing seven or eight?), he might not have even known what a college was, and now, there aren’t any for him to go to.
6) Back at Hilltop, while discussing whether Maggie will send The Sanctuary more food, Maggie tells Michonne that a shipment of ethanol never arrived, which Michonne suggests may be the result of an ex-Savior walk-off, the second time it’s been mentioned in this episode. Is this foreshadowing a Savior revolt?
7) After discussing Daryl and Justin’s fight (And Daryl subsequently getting angry at Rick and storming off), Rick angrily flips over the “Key To The Future” book, which was given to Maggie by Georgie back in the Season Eight episode, “The Key”.
