The Walking Dead returns this week with shocking revelations and tender moments. Here’s your recap of season 9 episode 3, “Warning Signs.”

There’s a walker wandering along and he eventually comes across more walkers who move on from the body of the now-dead Savior. Slowly but surely the Savior rises up, back from the dead, and he joins his new friends. “Final Warning” is spray painted on the wall behind him.

Rick gets dressed while Michonne sleeps behind him. He kisses her arm and goes to check on Judith, who is also sleeping. Downstairs he passes the section of the deck that bears Carl and Judith’s handprints and he touches Carl’s hand before continuing along.

Outside Alexandria is looking like a thriving, vibrant community. Crops are thriving. Rick places a tomato on Carl’s grave, which is marked with a “C” made of rocks. The tomato is symbolic of the growth in the community, and the future that Carl envisioned.

When Rick returns he finds Michonne awake. She didn’t sleep well. She’s working on the charter for the communities and he’s happy that she’s the one leading Alexandria. Michonne says that Judith has a cough and Rick says he checked on her but there’s no fever. She wants to take her to see Siddiq just in case because there has been a bug going around. She also says Maggie is still upset, and Rick knows it. So too is Daryl and several others. Rick says they will see what he is doing in time, when his vision for the future comes together. He thanks her for everything that she’s done for them all. He kisses her and suggests she take a break. She teases that he wants her to stop working on the building blocks of civilization but he has other techniques in mind to build for the future. She asks if he’s sure, and he is. Baby Richonne???

Later we see Maggie and one of the Hilltoppers riding along with a wagon. They get stopped by several Saviors who aren’t at the bridge because they’re looking for a friend who went missing. Maggie tells them she has their food even though they never got their fuel, and the Saviors note that their friends who had gone to deliver the ethanol are also missing. His name is Judd. One of the other Saviors promises to keep track of the tomato he stole from the wagon and gets them moving before their next shift at the bridge. In the distance they see a dead Savior. It’s Justin.

At the infirmary Rick models deep breathing for Judith as Siddiq listens to his lungs. She giggles at them before it’s her turn. The family shares a rare family day that culminates with storybook time. The Wizard of Oz. Rick spots someone running up to the house and Michonne goes to talk to him. He has news of the missing Savior, who was definitely killed by someone. Michonne grabs Rick’s hand.
