The Walking Dead ratings continue to grow by 50% or more in extended views, and The Bridge got a big jump.

The Walking Dead season 9 continues to impress fans and critics. While the live views each Sunday night have dipped The Walking Dead’s extended ratings consistently pick up a 50% or more increase which shows that the live views don’t give an accurate picture of the popularity of the show.

The decrease in live views is something that shows across all cable networks have experienced since cable subscriptions continue to drop at a record setting pace. But The Walking Dead remains in the number one slot for scripted cable drama on Sunday nights and continues to have massive gains in extended views each week.

The Walking Dead’s second episode of season 9, “The Bridge”, had 4.9 million live views  which was low by TWD standards but still millions of views ahead of every other competitor. In Live+3 views The Walking Dead picked up a 55% increase of 2.7 million views to bring the total views of “The Bridge” to 7.7 million.

The only cable show that can even come close to catching up to The Walking Dead is American Horror Story: Apocalypse which had a Live+3 total of 4.5 million views. The Walking Dead’s ratings should increase over the next couple of weeks as Andrew Lincoln’s final episodes as Rick Grimes loom.

The Walking Dead Season 9 Popular With Fans And Critics

Despite the imminent departures of Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan season 9 of The Walking Dead has the approval of both fans and critics. Some critics, who have had very few positive things to say about the show for the last few seasons, have been effusive in their praise for the new season. And fans are very happy with the changes that new showrunner Angela Kang has made in the tone and look of the show.

Angela Kang’s long history with the show and the characters that fans love is obvious in her ability to narrow the focus of the storyline back down onto the relationships between the core survivors while at the same time setting up an expansive world that is totally unknown and will contain new threats, new communities, and new relationships that the characters will have to figure out how to navigate. And judging by the consistent ratings increase of 50% or more in extended views fans are definitely on board for the new beginning of The Walking Dead.
